One point this blog will try to make over and over again is that we need to look at ourselves as the human-animal that we are. What do we fundamentally need? How do we fit into the ecosystem? In what ways is our brain hardwired for survival? Is it possible to overcome our instincts when they fuck with our modern expectations?

With these questions sparking 2021 discourses about Communism, Consumer Capitalism, property, ownership, and unsustainable expectations of abundance, it’s worth addressing the psychology behind why we want things.

Why do we feel like having stuff is an extension of ourselves? Ask me, and I will tell you it all comes from the void of identity and purpose lurking in the back of all our greatest fears. As creatures who’ve survived by finding patterns and constructing grand narratives, we’re forever trying to craft something that proves we are meant to be here and when we are gone, something still remains.

This video will dip your feet into some of these concepts and really get you thinking about why we are so attached to our things.
